#70: When the neighbour is so beautiful …

It is late in the evening. Eve is in the living room. Her husband is at work. He is working overtime. Eve is drinking tea while she is reading a book. It is a present from her husband. It is a history book. The real history of her country. She likes the book. But she should not be reading the book. When the police find somebody who reads or even has a book about the real history of the country, they put the person in prison. Usually, these people die there. She knows she is safe. She never reads the story in front of other people. She only reads it at home. The police don’t come to her home.
Suddenly, there is a knock on the door. Then another one. Then another.
“This is the police. Open the door.”
She puts the book in the bookcase between two books about history. The police will not find it there. She goes to the door and opens it with a smile. Three policemen come into the house. They go straight to the bookcase. Eve knows what they are looking for. She wishes her husband was there. A policeman goes to the history book. He takes it off the shelf. He reads into it.
“Boys, I have found it.”
The other two policemen read into the book. They grab Eve’s arm and take her to the car. Eve would like to say goodbye to her husband. Just then, she can see her husband coming out of the house of their unmarried lady neighbour. He waves at her with a smile on his face.
