#92: It is the parents’ fault

“This is not fair,” Claire says to her best friend. “Sandy is studying and she already drives her own car she got from her parents. My parents don’t even have their own car.”
“You will buy your own car one day. You are clever and you will get a good job. You will be successful. You will have plenty of money,” says Beatrix who tries to help Claire to feel better. It is clearly not working.
“How could I find a good job? I have to go to a good university. My parents don’t have money to pay for it. And even if I go to a cheap university, I will surely have to work to help my parents to pay their bills.”
“This is true but you are beautiful. You could marry a rich man. He will make money, and you will be looking after the children.”
“What are you talking about? Men want independent women today. Men want women to make their own money, as much money as they need. If she doesn’t, she is seen as a gold-digger. And I am not beautiful,” she adds.
“You cannot be angry with your parents. Surely, their parents were poor, too.”
“That is not an excuse. They should have worked harder,” she says and drinks up her wine.
