“Why is the street alarm on?” John asks on the sidewalk after he ran out of his house at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. “What is happening?”
“I don’t know,” the first person he meets says. “This is surely not a test alarm. It goes off at noon.”
“Yeah, that is what I am thinking,” John says and runs to the next person to find out the truth.
Nobody knows what is happening. Everybody asks everybody. Nobody has the answer. Suddenly, something appears in the sky over the buildings. It is a huge thing. It is flying very low. The tallest building in the city is just a few floors tall. And the flying object is just above them. As the object blocks all light from the sun. The object is so huge that it has been flying above John for twenty minutes. The people who come out to the streets are afraid at first but soon they are just looking at the flying object. Dogs bark at the object. Just now John realizes that the object is very quiet. In fact he can only hear the dogs. The alarm has stopped. John knows what is happening. This is not an object from earth. This is a UFO – an Unidentified Flying Object, a spaceship from another planet. Suddenly, a door in the spaceship opens. The door is just above the head of John. John makes a few steps to the side. He is afraid something will fall out of the spaceship. The door follows him. He is again standing under the door. Suddenly, a light comes out of the ship. It falls on John. In seconds the light disappears and with it John. The spaceship flies away and disappears in the bright, cloudless sky.
