#63: Everything happens for a reason

Patsy is in the bathroom.
“Oh my, God!” she says when she sees the result of her pregnancy test.
The test says she is pregnant. She feels terrible. She and her husband have been talking about children. They already have one. One is enough. Unfortunately, her husband is between jobs. They are moving to a smaller house next month. This is the worst time to be pregnant.
“Are you alright, baby?” her husband asks when she enters the living room.
“Yes, I’ve just hit my head. Nothing serious.”
“Come here, baby.”
Petsy steps closer and he kisses her forehead.
“Honey, I have to tell you something.”
She regrets starting but she must continue. Her husband doesn’t like it when she doesn’t finish a sentence. She could speak about something else but she can think of nothing else.
“Honey, we are going to have a baby.”
They are quiet for a long time. Her husband is really surprised. She doesn’t know if he is angry or not. She speaks first:
“I know we have spoken about this. I know this is not the best time. If you want I can go to the hospital and… you know….,” she says bravely but she regrets it. She doesn’t know what is worse. The fact that she is pregnant or the fact that she is willing to get rid of the child.
“Patsy, darling, don’t you worry. We will manage. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe this will help me to get a good job. I just need a job, that’s all.”
She kisses him. “Are you sure?”
He doesn’t answer. He just gives back the kiss. He takes his coat and kisses her again.
“I know I am going to get a job today. You will see.”
He leaves the house. Patsy can hear him shout happily: “We are going to have another child!”
