#31: The Big Apple

Jane is looking at a photo she has just got in an email from her husband. He is in New York, also known as The Big Apple. He is there on business. There is a lovely view of the city in the photo. Most interestingly, the photo is taken from a bridge and a big apple with a bite in it is on the handrail of the bridge.
“Fantastic photo!” she writes to her husband. “I like the apple with the bite in it. It is very artistic.”
“Thank you. I love you,” he writes.
“I love you too,” she writes.
She prints the photo and places it above her computer. She continues to read messages from friends. She is reading a message from her best lady-friend, Marie. Marie has sent a photo, too. She is in the photo. She is on a bridge. Behind her are the buildings of New York. “What a coincidence! Two people I love most are in New York at the same time,” she thinks. Suddenly, something catches her attention. On the handrail next to Marie there is an apple, an apple with a bite in it. Jane zooms in on the apple. It is exactly the same apple she can see in the photo above her computer. She picks up the phone and dials her husband.
“Can I speak to Marie, please?”
“Honey, this is John here. You are calling me.”
“Can I speak to Marie, please?” she repeats angrily. “Look, I know she is there with you.”
“Honey, calm down. I will explain it when I get home.”
“No, don’t come home! Stay there. Both of you! I don’t want to see either of you ever again! I hope you both choke on that apple.”
