#30: She can’t have her own children

“I am sorry but you will never be able to have children,” the doctor says to Jane for the first time she knows her.
She has been trying to get pregnant for the last four years. She and her husband, John, have done everything to have children. She had the feeling she cannot get pregnant but to hear it from the doctors is very hard. They don’t say things like this easily. And now, she will have to tell the news to her husband. What if he leaves her because of this? What if he wants to have children so much that he wants to find another woman to have children with?
“Honey, I was at the doctor today,” Jane says to her husband when she arrives home.
“Any good news?”
“I cannot get pregnant.”
“What?”
“The doctor said I cannot have my own children.”
John thinks about the news. He too has been expecting this but to hear this from her, it is quite different.
“Well, you can have children.”
“What do you mean?”
“You said it yourself. You cannot have your own children. But you can raise other children.”
“Like adopting strange children?”
“Yes, of course. Children are about love. But if you can give love, you can give love to any child, not only yours. We can go to the orphanage next month. Till then, we can talk about it.”
“Would you really like that?”
“Would you?”
“I am not sure,” Jane says and a teardrop appears in her eye.
“I will do what you want, darling. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
She wipes her eye and kisses John on the forehead.
