#26: Winning in the lottery

Jane leaves the betting shop with a big smile on her face. She has just won in the lottery. She hasn’t won the jackpot but she has won about as much as she earns in one month. It is a lot of money for her. She can do or buy many things from this money. She could pay for a short holiday with her husband. This could help them to improve their relationship. They have argued a lot lately. This fact makes her sad a bit. But she doesn’t want this thought to spoil her day and take away the wonderful feeling of winning.
“Honey, what would you do if we won in the lottery?” she asks after dinner.
“I would take half the money and divorce you.”
Blood freezes in Jane. She is angry and sad at the same time. She realizes her husband doesn’t love her anymore.
She opens her handbag and takes out the winning lottery ticket and half the money she won.
“Look, we have won in the lottery. This is your half. Take it and get out of my house.”
