“I hate spiders,” Eva says to Claire when she finds a spider on Clair’s T-shirt. “I am really afraid of them.”
Claire swipes off her T-shirt where Eva is pointing at.
“Did you know that people eat 10 spiders in their sleep during their life?” Claire asks.
“I have heard that but I don’t believe it. How would anyone know what they do in their sleep?”
“That is a good question,” Claire says and they change the topic of conversation.
That night, Eva wakes up to what she thinks is a spider she has just swallowed. She still feels it in her throat. She tries to cough it up. She runs to the bathroom and with her head over the toilet bowl she wants to cough up the spider. She is trying for about 2 minutes and wakes up everybody in the house.
“What’s wrong, darling?” her husband asks. “Are you alright?”
“No, I am not. I think I have just swallowed a spider. I want to cough it up but I can’t. It is still stuck in my throat,” she says.
“Oh dear! Let me have a look.”
She opens her mouth and he looks into it.
“You will be alright. It is just a spider. I know you hate spiders but around here they aren’t poisonous. But what is with your eyes? Your eyes are red. While you were trying to cough up the spider your eyes became filled with blood. We must go to the doctor,” he says and takes her hand. They go to the car and drive to the nearest hospital.
